Devoted to supporting survivors of domestic abuse
The Lampstand Group was founded by Jennifer Hebert, a survivor of significant years of domestic abuse, who experienced homelessness through abuse and lived in a refuge with her young children. The charity chair has 37 years of charitable expertise.
Women coerced into co dependancy toxic unhealthy relationships often have a history of trauma which shape their attachment styles, making them more vulnerable to manipulative partners and abusive relationships.
“Trauma and insecure attachments within the family home, especially stemming from past abuse, can lead to a tolerance for distress in relationships, where discomfort, violence or volatility may feel “normal.”
“They may even feel they deserve this type of relationship as they had to become ‘comfortable’ to endure the pain and constant anxiety/trauma involved in the abusive cycle.”
“Threats and intimidation, sometimes very subtle, making them hard to distinguish or even believe, maintains the control, making the victim feel that leaving is impossible or dangerous.
Due to significant levels of trauma survivors of domestic abuse lack confidence, often need rehousing, have anxiety or mental health challenges. Our mission is to relieve homelessness and to promote healthy relationships, to ensure the survivors achieve their full potential by offering support recovery, promoting positive mental health and wellbeing sensitively to people throughout Hull and East Yorkshire regions.

WHO WE ARE
The Lampstand Group is a charity that will provide housing and support to those made homeless through domestic abuse by serving the communities of East Yorkshire. Our mission is to promote healthy relationships and support recovery, positive mental health and wellbeing to people in our community. We believe that appropriate support and information will lead to progress towards personal resilience and meaningful life outcomes for those who experience domestic abuse and their families. We have links to provide training for the residents to become support workers in their timing if they want to explore this.
What we do
Support
We will aim to promote the wellbeing of women who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence and abuse, by such means as are charitable.
Protect
To relieve the distress and suffering of women in Hull and the East Riding, in such ways as shall relieve their need through charitable support and by providing temporary housing.
Enrich
We will strive to enrich the lives of women, provide a refuge for those fleeing domestic abuse, and help them to build a brigher future.
We will provide open-access, offering inclusive, trauma-informed and person-centred support, activities and opportunities for all who wish to maintain or improve their health and wellbeing. We have built up and are continuing to develop partnerships from a broad range of partners who will provide professional referrals as well as self-referrals from individuals. The feedback we have received is to provide long term housing solutions, in desirable post codes, and that spaces will be filled as there are not enough spaces to accommodation the demand. More than half of domestic abuse survivors face homelessness after being turned away from refuges due to a chronic national shortage of spaces.
