Compassion heals
The LampStand Group is a registered charity and exists to provide safe, stable housing and specialist support for survivors of domestic abuse in Hull and East Riding. Many women fleeing abuse are at risk of homelessness due to a severe shortage of refuge spaces. Nationally, statistics from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that between April 2022 and March 2023, over 60% of women seeking refuge were turned away due to capacity issues.
Locally, the East Riding & Humber Domestic Abuse Partnership Strategy (2021-2024) identified 24,690 adults and 18,468 children as victims of domestic abuse, with insufficient specialist accommodation available to meet demand. Survivors also face significant barriers, including financial instability, social isolation, and long-term psychological trauma.
Our Understanding
Our founder understands what it means to navigate the emotional, financial, and social challenges of leaving an abusive relationship. This lived experience shapes our commitment to providing safe housing, trauma-informed support, and long-term recovery opportunities for survivors.
Many of our volunteers and staff also have experience of domestic abuse or homelessness, either personally or through working with survivors. This unique perspective ensures that our approach is practical, empathetic, and survivor-led, addressing real challenges rather than just theoretical ones.

We aim to promote the wellbeing of women and children who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence and abuse, by such means as are charitable.

The latest figures show around six in 10 women fleeing domestic violence who sought a space in a refuge in England over a year were denied a place.
Data from the Office for National Statistics shows 27,754 women were referred to a refuge between April 2022 and March 2023 but only 10,824 were accepted, with 16,930 women left with nowhere to go. This is the equivalent of one woman being turned away every two hours.
